Painting with Plants
For centuries, our world was given colour through plants and stones from our own environment. From the petroglyphs of our distant ancestors to Rembrandt’s famous paintings. Even our clothes and the books we wrote: paint and ink were made with what was found in nature.
It is wonderful to discover that again – it gives back wonder and admiration for the plants, stones and earth around us. Even in the city.
Working from tradition, the process has adapted to these times to ensure that making the paint and ink is also sustainable. By harvesting respectfully, being economical with energy and avoiding unnatural additives, among other things, you can create powerful vegetable colours. Colours that blend surprisingly well due to their natural origins.
Plant ink is a mixture of highly concentrated, natural plant extracts with a liquid. You can write with it using ink pens or paint with it like ecoline or watercolour.
In this workshop we will work with traditional plants from this area. Pregathered – think gall-nuts or madder or walnut. Or freshly picked by you: we will go out to see what nature currently offers us to make ink from. I teach you to recognise the plants, which part is suitable (bark, leaf, flower) and how to harvest respectfully & sustainably. With which plants we return depends on the season, of course!
Back at the Ceuvel, we process the found materials. You will learn how to make ink in different ways from different types of plant material.
You will also learn how to make your own drawing materials from natural materials: how to cut a reed pen and make your own tassels. At the end of the afternoon, you can use these to try out the inks.
You will go home with several bottles of homemade ink, a homemade reed or bamboo pen, brushes and, of course, your drawings.

Leer hoe je zelf schoenen kunt maken, op maat van jouw voet!
Soepele schoenen, die je voeten als een handschoen passen èn die je nog steeds de aarde laten voelen.
Het kunnen maken van je eigen schoenen heeft iets magisch – om het mooie leer onder je handen om te vormen naar iets waar je werkelijk op door stad en land kunt lopen… Je creëert een kledingstuk waar je echt een band mee hebt, van restleer uit de kleding- en meubelindustrie. Prachtige stukken leer die anders worden weggegooid.
Inhoud workshop:
Je leert te werken met een eenvoudig schoenpatroon, leert hoe je dit patroon op maat maakt op je eigen voet. Leert meer over leer, hoe je je patroon overbrengt en het leer vervolgens verwerkt. Hoe je leer met de hand kunt naaien en afwerken. Er zijn twee verschillende type schoenen voor verschillende niveaus van ervaring met naai- of knutselwerk zodat iedereen aan het eind van de middag met een paar schoenen naar huis kan. Uiteraard zijn er ook verschillende soorten en kleuren leer waar je zelf een keuze in kunt maken, en ook het patroon krijg je mee naar huis!
‘Ik liep vroeger overal het liefste op blote voeten. Ik houd van het voelen van de verandering van textuur, hardheid, temperatuur van waar ik loop, maar in de stad werd dat te onveilig. Sinds ik zelf schoenen maak, krijg ik die ervaring weer terug en wil ik eigenlijk niets anders meer…’ Anke Wijnja

Natuurlijk zijn we wel achter de schermen alles aan het voorbereiden zodat we straks vliegend van start kunnen 😉
