Sheep'skin' felting - November 14th

Creating a skin from a shorn wool fleece

Did you know that every year more than 1.5 million kilos of Dutch shorn wool ends up in the bin? And that’s despite it being an incredibly beautiful material: naturally insulating, water-repellent, soft and very easy to process…

One of the oldest ways to make use of it is to felt it. If you do this with a whole shorn fleece, you can even felt it into a sheepskin, without having to kill a sheep.
You will learn from ancient craftsmanship how a shorn, long-haired fleece is cleaned, processed, reshaped and then felted into a sturdy sheepskin.
It’s wonderful to do – wool is a great material to work with. What’s more, the result is lovely for winter evenings on the sofa, on the floor at your feet or in your camping chair during colder nights…

Everyone works on their own small rug (Ikea rug size) which you can take home afterwards. The rugs come from a farm in Drenthe with French small brown sheep and have literally been saved from the rubbish bin. We work with respect for nature and as sustainably as possible throughout the process. Please note: Because the sheep are only sheared once a year, this workshop is only given once a year!
